Traci Minshew, certified nursing assistant

On Oct. 12, 2017, Life Care Center of Burlington certified nursing assistant Traci Minshew was named CNA of the Year for parent company Life Care Centers of America’s Plains Region.

The award was presented at the region’s annual Rewarding Excellence banquet, held in Lenexa, Kansas. Each year, each skilled nursing and rehabilitation center in the region bestows three facility-level CNA of the Year awards and a Team Spirit Award. These winners are then eligible for the region-wide award.

“I was so excited for myself and my team at Life Care Center of Burlington,” said Minshew. “I have been a nurse aide for 23 years. I truly believe this is why God put me on this earth. I can make a difference in the life of another on a daily basis.”

Minshew was nominated for loving her residents wholeheartedly and taking extra time to make each one feel special, whether through doing their hair and nails or checking on them on her time off. She sings in the halls and exhibits a positive and professional attitude, and she signs up for extra shifts. She even bought a resident a Father’s Day gift when she noticed he had been feeling down.

As the regional winner, Minshew received $500, roses and a plaque.

Life Care Center of Burlington’s other CNAs of the Year for 2017 were Maria Short and Tricia Busta. Its Team Spirit Award went to Jami Dannels, night shift charge nurse. Each honoree received $100.
